Covid-19 Updates

Please note that this information is based on the announcement from the Japanese government as of June 1, 2022, and may be altered in the near future.

Current COVID-19 measures and policies in Japan

The government of Japan has loosened the “border measures” against Covid-19 for those who are entering Japan. For details, please see the following page:
https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/bordercontrol.html

How to Skip Checking Procedures at Airport (Fast Track)

Even after the government’s border measures have been loosened, it is still predicted that you may have to wait long hours at the airport when you enter Japan, due to Covid-19 checking procedures.

If you are entering Japan from any of the following airports, some of the steps of submitting documents at the time you enter Japan can be skipped;
-Narita International Airport
-Haneda Airport
-Chubu Centrair International Airport
-Kansai International Airport
-Fukuoka Airport

In order to do reduce immigration steps, you need to install “MySOS” app into your mobile device before you leave for Japan, and enter some info into the app beforehand.

For further details, please see the following page:

Before you enter Japan…

1) Have an “Entry Visa” ready.
All non-Japanese citizens must have an entry visa beforehand. For details, please see the following page on our website:
Visa Information

2) Take an “Inspection for Covid-19” (within 72 hours of departure).
All entrants into Japan, whether you are Japanese or non-Japanese, must submit a inspection certificate at the immigration gate on your arrival. The inspection must be done within 72 hours of your departure flight to Japan. For further information about inspections, please see the PDF file below:
https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/000825144.pdf

3) Make sure that you have “Travel Insurance.”
Some foreign residents may not be applied to Japanese public medical insurances, so we recommend that you take out a travel insurance to cover all the medical expenses during your stay in Japan.

4) Prepare a mobile device (phone, tablet PC, etc.).
On your arrival in Japan, you will be required to install some apps into your mobile device. If you do not have one, they will tell you to rent one at the quarantine station, and you will have to pay for the rent. Even if you do not want to install any apps into your own device, it will be better that you rent a mobile device before you come to Japan, for example, at your departure airport.

After you enter Japan…

1) Install apps into your mobile device.
On your arrival in Japan, you will be required to install the following apps into your mobile device.
*MySOS app
*Cocoa app

2) Sign the pledge and fill in a questionnaire.
At the Quarantine Station, you will be asked to sign a pledge to follow the rules about your behavior during your stay in Japan, and fill in a questionnaire.

3) A “3-day Quarantine” may be required.
The government of Japan has altered their policy regarding “quarantine requests” for those who have entered Japan, which became effective after June 1, 2022.

They have divided the countries or regions in the world into three groups; blue, yellow, and red.
Depending on whether you have been vaccinated against Covid-19 three times, or which country/region you are from, you will be required to quarantine yourself in a hotel for three days.

*Your isolation will be terminated if Covid-19 test is negative on the third day of isolation. You will be required quarantine for a total of 7 days if you do not take the test.
*2Your isolation will be terminated if Covid-19 test is negative on the third day of isolation at the facility.
